I noticed that a lot of people have a different approach on their paleo diet. Since I just started I am still kind of testing things out and trying a lot of new things I never ate before. Funny thing is, this whole different eating style (diet makes it sound like I want to lose weight) is pretty easy to work with. It does not involve weird, special or rare ingredients that can only be found in some über-bio-hip-vegetable store. For me this means I now eat a lot more meat and fish. I try to get organic food most of the time (especially pork meat), but sometimes that just isn’t available. Preservatives is something I try to avoid anyway. In the beginning I compensated the low bloodsugar with a lot of fruit, but that is less now. I try to buy vegetables and fruits organic as much as possible. And that’s pretty easy I must say (not in your wallet though).
What also really helps is getting some sort of vegie bag subscription at your local farm. The Dutch country side is excellent for these kind of things and they work both ways. You get the healthy pesticide-free vegetables and that local farmer makes his money. To birds with one stone! These kind of deals are also available for meat or fruits. I have a subscription here in Enschede at the Vier Marken (Dutch). Last week I got 2 red beets, iceberg lettuce, cauliflower and Romanesco broccoli and that all for €7,50 (about 11 bucks) (more…)
